2019 Divisional TAME Competition

The Divisional TAME ( Texas Alliance for Minorities in Engineering) Competition took place last Saturday, Feb 02, 2019 at Saulsbury Campus Center in Odessa College.  The competition consisted of Math, Science tests and Engineering Design Challenge.

The Math and Science tests were created by the UIL committee. The Science tests covered Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Forensics Science contents. The Math tests included Algebra, Geometry, and Calculus subjects. The students were given 45 minutes to finish answering the 50 questions for both exams.

The Engineering Design Challenge was created by ConocoPhillips.  This year's challenge was to design a channel to transport BB's across the landscape.  The BB's represent fluids. The design was judged based on the number of BB's (weight) transported within 30 seconds, with no spills, and the least amount of resources ( plastic straws, tape, wooden sticks, paper clips,  & construction papers) used. All the 1st place winners both in the math, science tests and engineering design challenge will automatically advance to the STATE competition. Additional qualifying students for the STATE competition TBA later.

Attached you will find the results and a picture video from the Divisional TAME Competition.  Thank you to all Middle School & High School Math & Science teachers for preparing our students for this event.  We appreciate your hard work and dedication to make sure that our students would be successful in their endeavors.  A special thanks to our co-sponsors,  Mr. Rivano,  Mr. Estolloso, and Ms. Teves.  Above all, thank you to our PISD board members and administrators for your commitment and support of the TAME program.

Sincerely,
